Welcome to the Kanata Seniors’ Centre Camera Club

General information

Any member of the Kanata Seniors’ Centre (KSC) can join the Camera Club. It doesn’t matter if you are brand new to photography or have decades of experience with a camera. You are welcome no matter what your skill level. The Club’s main mission is to encourage the enjoyment of photography in a supportive, non-judgmental, and friendly learning environment.
You will get the most from being a KSCCC member if you participate, but your degree of involvement is totally up to you – submitting your work is purely voluntary! However, we do encourage you to:

  • regularly attend our monthly meetings,
  • frequently visit the Club’s excellent website at: http://www.ksccc.ca, and
  • attend educational workshops and presentations.

KSCCC Monthly Meetings

Meetings usually take place on the first Friday morning of each month from September through June (with some exceptions for holidays and other activities at the KSC).

Meetings are held in KSC Halls C and D. Make sure you scan your KSC membership card at the front desk when you arrive at the Centre and sign the attendance sheet in the meeting room. Meetings start at 9:15 a.m. and run until about 11:30 a.m., with a 10- to 15-minute coffee break in the middle.

Meetings generally begin with comments from the Chair (who is usually a member of the KSCCC Executive), followed by a presentation from a keynote speaker.

After the coffee break there is a series of regular Club activities, including a slideshow based on the monthly “photo challenge” topic, videos by Club members and an opportunity to review images or short videos submitted by members.

The meeting concludes with “housekeeping items” and a reminder of the next month’s monthly challenge topic and the submission deadline.

We strongly recommend that all new members review the comprehensive information posted on the KSCCC website, entitled “KSCCC Meeting Protocols”.

The KSCCC Website

The website is an excellent resource for all KSCCC members. It provides a wealth of information about the Club, upcoming events and monthly meetings, and an archive of past monthly challenges and club presentations. There is a wealth of photo resources with a long list of topics and reference articles pertaining to photography.

As a new member, one of your first steps should be to subscribe to the KSCCC website. This will ensure that you receive emails on all Club activities. To subscribe enter your email address into the Subscribe box on the right.

Details on how to submit images (photos or videos up to 5 seconds long), for the monthly challenges and for review, are also on the website.

Educational Workshops

Over the past several years, free educational workshops and tutorials have been offered to Club members outside of the regular monthly meetings. Such sessions range in length from one to several hours and seek to accommodate a wide range of photographic skill levels and interests. Recent topics have included:

  • “Taking your Photography to the Next Level”,
  • “Small Flash Photography”, and
  • “Post-processing Techniques”

Upcoming workshops are announced at the regular monthly meetings.

The KSCCC Executive

The KSCCC Executive is a small group of members who have volunteered to plan and organize the Club meetings and activities. Members of the Executive have a “Smiley face” sticker on their name tags. Feel free to ask any member of the Executive questions about the meetings or photography in general or let them know if you have any concerns with respect to the Club.
