A group of camera club members offered to take portraits of the Senior Centre members in 2015 and again in 2017. It was a very popular and well-attended activity. Janet Baigent has indicated the general membership is interested in holding another portrait session if there is sufficient interest among camera club members.
A room has been reserved either Friday 26 January, or Wednesday, 31 January, to meet, discuss, plan, learn about your expectations, level of participation, and to have fun. Everyone is welcome. You may bring your camera, lights, and backgrounds if you have them. (The date to be discussed.)
In 2015 a group of us got together for 3 sessions and took portraits of ourselves before opening up to the general Senior Centre members.
This video is an example of the setup and fun we had working together:
In 2017 there was no warm-up. The photographers who participated were:
The session was advertized. There were different areas in the room. Photographers were welcome to use Pat Newton’s camera and backdrop because his camera was set up with a slave light to work with his camera and background.
Frank Dugal brought in lights and a backdrop and coached photographers to use a manual setting using their own camera.
Anne, Amy, and Sue had their own backdrops and lights.
The photographer was responsible for editing, touch-up and sending the client, via email, four or so of the best portraits.
Also, there were many camera club members, who helped with set up, welcoming people, arranging lights, taking photos, and cleaning up.
This video is the culmination of the 2017 workshop:
This PowerPoint Presentation is an example of the organization, and things to consider.

The “Free Table” was tried last season with some success. We will offer it again at the December meeting.
You can bring surplus photo equipment, accessories, books, or magazines which other members can take.
The only proviso is that, if your items are not taken, please take them with you after the meeting.

Stephen Stephen will give a presentation on the Mammals of Etosha National Park, Namibia on Friday, December 1st, 2023.

Stephen will introduce us to Namibia’s incredible Etosha National Park. His
presentation will illustrate, through photos, what mammals can be seen there, during the dry season, on a self-directed safari drive.
Stephen has always been fascinated by nature’s wonders. He had been doing 35mm film photography for many years when he moved to digital photography in 2005.
His images may be found in publications including:
He has given nature talks, featuring his photography, at numerous venues including the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) Ottawa, the Eastern Ontario Woodlot Owners Association, the Kanata Seniors Center Camera Club, the Kemptville and Gloucester Horticultural Societies, and numerous retirement residences here in Ottawa.
Stephen has also acted as a photography competition judge on a number of occasions for both the Camera Club Of Ottawa and the Kemptville Horticultural Society.

Once again this year, the KSCCC will be promoting the club with
a display of our work in the display case at the entrance to the
Beaverbrook Library (next door), in January. The theme will again
be: “Winter: A great time to create pictures” To complete the
display, we are looking for three more pictures 8” x 10” inches in
size (landscape or portrait) and framed without matting in a fairly
plain black or silver frame. We would like one more winter scene
and two artistic post-processing pictures to complete the display.
Pictures will be considered in the order submitted. We will be
choosing a combination of pictures that complement each other,
and best promote the theme. To submit your picture for
consideration please send an electronic copy of it in an email to
contact@ksccc.ca , with the Subject line “Library display in
January“ and put Attention: Jan & Bruce Turner in the text.
To meet the January date, we need to receive your submissions
by the end of November. This will allow us time to select pictures
and notify participants so that they can print and frame their
pictures by mid-December.
We know there are lots of great pictures out there, so please take
a few minutes to consider helping the KSCCC promote the club.

Lorraine Fernando will give a presentation on Painting with Light – Bending Pixels on Friday, November 3, 2023.
Lorraine has been photographing for about ten years. She has spent some time trying to find her photographic voice – what interests her, and what types of images she likes to create.
Lorraine’s approach to photography is experimental, and she enjoys creating images using many different techniques. Her photographs range from traditional landscapes to impressionistic images. Lorraine is a self-confessed pixel-bender and her preference is to show what cannot be seen with the naked eye. She sometimes bends her pixels in-camera, with various multiple exposure techniques. Other times, she will look through her existing catalog of images and select one that calls to her and gets to bending, adjusting, blending, and mixing, until she likes what she has. Either way, Lorraine gets her best images when she zones out and just plays!
Lorraine enjoys traveling and photographing places. She has found that she sees and experiences a place very differently as a photographer, looking below the surface and capturing many details that she would never notice if she wasn’t looking through her viewfinder.

We have completed changing all the KSCCC pictures in the
Seniors’ Centre. Please take a minute to check them out when
you are next there. Thanks to the following photographers for
some great pictures: Jack Coutts, Jane Phipps, Jay-Dee Purdy,
Ted Timmons, Ken Wilson, and Wendy Wood.
As a reminder, the KSCCC is looking for additional pictures to
hang in the Seniors’ Centre, and we encourage all club members
to contribute. We are now open for business for the February
change. If you have a picture you really like, then chances are
people at the Centre would like to see it too. For more information
on how to participate, please check out this post or send your
questions to contact@ksccc.ca to the attention of Jan and Bruce
Turner.
