At our December meeting, we will have tables set-up for members to sell used photography equipment and accessories.

Please indicate the selling price and your name.

If the equipment you’re selling is an accessory please indicate what camera models it works with.

At the break, everyone should stand with their items for sale.

Thanks to the Craft Group

Craft Group 20181120The City of Ottawa supports our camera club by providing us with space and equipment.  However, we do not receive any funding from them to support our club.  The club operates on donations from volunteers and other sources.

This year we have had additional expenses to operate our website and image storage costs on our website.  In October we received a donation from the Kanata Seniors Council to operate our website for this fiscal season.  We recently approached the Craft Group in the Seniors Centre and they agreed to pay for image storage costs associated with maintaining the member images on our club website.  We are hoping that the Craft Group will support us yearly with donations to support our website and image storage costs.

We wish to give a big THANK YOU to the Craft Group for their generous donation.

The Craft Group will be having a sale at the Christmas Dinner at the Kanata Seniors Centre on December 13th.  They will have about 6 tables of homemade items, socks, mitts, scarves, hats, sweaters and miscellaneous Christmas items.  Please support the Craft Group by dropping by and you might just find a Christmas present or two.

Flyers for the Craft Sale are available in the front office.

Five Men Curling by William Notman

The Canadian Museum of History is presenting an exhibition on William Notman from November 23, 2018 – April 14, 2019. Quoting from their website:

Experience 19th century Canada through the lens of a pioneer of photography. See the iconic images produced by William Notman (1826–1891), the first Canadian photographer to gain an international reputation.

Introducing a modern approach to photography, Notman created some of our most stunning windows onto the past. Through 300 vintage prints and objects from the McCord Museum, this exhibition presents a comprehensive portrait of Victorian Canada and celebrates the innovation and artistry of the man who captured it.

Details on how to register for a tour of the exhibition, lead by Notman experts, can be found here.

For more information on William Notman, start with this Wikipedia article and this 2 part documentary produced by CBC Ideas: Part 1 and Part 2.

Sandy Sharkey

The featured speaker at our meeting on November 2nd will be Sandy Sharkey.

Sandy 9782 By Valerie Keeler, Valberg Imaging

Sandy is a former Ottawa radio announcer who is now pursuing her favourite passion:  photographing wild horses.  She has photographed horses in Mongolia, Costa Rica, and France.  In 2018 Sandy embarked on a 67 day road trip to capture images of wild mustangs in the American southwest.  She is immensely proud of our Canadian wild horses, having visited Sable Island five times to photograph the iconic horses off the coast of Nova Scotia.  In conjunction with Help Alberta Wildies, Sandy documented the magnificent horses living wild and free in Alberta’s Rocky Mountain foothills.

Sandy’s limited edition prints of wild horses can be found in homes and businesses throughout North America, and can be custom ordered at her website. You can also follow Sandy on social media at Facebook, Twitter  (@sandysharkey), and Instagram  (sandysharkeyphotography).

Beaverbrook Library Showcase October 2018

A note of thanks to the following Kanata Seniors Centre Camera Club members  for submitting some great photos for our October 2018 Library Showcase: Anne Walsh, Ian Buchanan, Qing Mao,  and Georgia Dale Crichton.

I received a very nice email from the Library saying how beautiful they found the display.

This a great way to promote the club. Also it allows our members to see their photos out there for public viewing.

The display is at the inside entrance to the Beaverbrook Library in the Mlacak Centre  and will be on view until October 15th.

Lib Showcase Rev 1

The Camera Club will be providing a new display requiring about 5 photos (8 by 10 framed ) in October and June of each year .

The display will be available for viewing for a two week period each time. We encourage everyone to consider submitting for the June display . We’ll ensure that different members have a chance to display each time.

Of course , there is a on-going need for photos for display  throughout the KSC and photos can be submitted to Sue Carey for that purpose.

Thanks to everyone for your recent library showcase submissions ,
