10th Annual Geoheritage Day

Ottawa Sand Dune

The 10th annual Geoheritage Day will take place on Saturday, September 29 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at The Pinhey Sand Dunes. To get there, drive south on Woodroffe Avenue, and turn left two blocks south of the Nepean Sportsplex onto Pineland Avenue. Park on the south shoulder beside the signed entry gate near the end of the road (T-junction with Vaan Drive).

You will have the chance to learn how geological processes have shaped the regional landscape, given us a glimpse into past environments and life forms and provided resources for our use.

Volunteers from Carleton University’s Department of Earth Sciences and the Ottawa-Gatineau Geoheritage Project will be on hand to explain what there is to see and how each site fits into the local geological history. The Pinhey Sand Dunes will be on the program.

A FILM Photo Walk

21621838349_6b022bfc46_z

If you’re interested in a free chance to try shooting with film, Alexandra at Henry’s Kanata has asked us to pass along this invitation:

I promised I’d keep you all appraised of any events going on here at Kanata. We’ve got a fun one (I think anyways) coming up that some of your members might be interested in. A film photo walk!

It’s going to be on August 11th, 9am to ~ noon, at the Carp Farmers market. Like I said it’s free and Henry’s will be providing everyone with a free roll of film. We also have a few film cameras to lend out if someone wants to attend but doesn’t have, or no longer has, their own gear. Spots are slightly limited so people interested in attending should RSVP either to me through this email (Alexandra.leask@henrys.com) or by calling the store at 613-836-1016.

We think it’s going to be fun. It’s definitely going to be something different!

Beaverbrook Library Display

Front Shot rev1Thanks to Ed Lascelle for organizing, to Anne Jones for helping with the setup and the props (lovely glass pedestals), for Sue Carey for loaning the great old cameras, and to all who contributed images. Unfortunately there wasn’t enough space to use them all.

The display will be there until Monday June 11th.

The club has been invited  to provide a display for the fall  (early Oct for 2 weeks).

The library is very pleased with the display . This is great exposure for the club..

There will be a full day portrait session, Thursday, 31 May at the Kanata Senior’s Centre, 9 – 3:30

There will be an opportunity:

To Help

and/or

To have your portrait taken.

There will be three lighting locations set up for you to experience. It will be a one-on-one opportunity for 15 – 30 minutes in each location. Each location is different. In two you will be able to use your own camera. The third is a demonstration of what can be done with a particular lighting set-up.

You may sign up for the morning, afternoon, or all day.

As well as taking portrait of each other, there will be Kanata Senior’s Centre members invited to have a free 5×7 portrait.

If you are a photographer you will be asked to email your model, print ready 1-4 of the portraits. Help will be provided.

Help is need with set-up, tear down, meeting and greeting people, organizing name tags and email addresses. There will be lots to do, learn, and time, to meet other camera club members in a fun and supportive environment.

In order to know how many people are interested there will be sign-up time sheets (or by emailing Sue Carey) to help, to photograph, and/or to have your portrait taken. You can sign all three sheets, and enjoy the day.

More information will be available at the May 4th camera club meeting or by contacting Sue Carey: careysj@hotmail.com.
