Winter is soon upon us and for interested Club members a special challenge. Starting in December and till the end of April seek out and take pictures that represent your individual winter experiences. There are no set topics, but as an example:
Again, these are examples to get your thoughts going. We each experience winter in different ways and the images you submit should reflect your unique experience. It could be a good one. Or a bad one. (Potholes anyone?)
When selecting an image for submission, think that you are writing a newsletter with one image for each month. Submit on the same dates as the regular monthly assignments. Select one image that is your story and submit it as:
Congratulations to club member and presenter Manfred Mueller.
On Thursday, he received an email from CAPA (Canadian Association for Photographic Art) that one of his images had taken 1st place in a national B&W competition.

On Friday, he received another email, this one from the Toronto Salon, which is the most prestigious photographic competition in the country, that he had received two major international awards for his work. The Toronto Salon is the oldest photographic salon in the Americas and the second oldest in the world. The 129th running of the salon has just been finished. There were 4796 entries from 434 photographers that came from 58 different countries.
He won the prestigious IAAF Gold Medal for one image and the FIAP Blue Ribbon for another. The IAAF is the International Association of Art Photographers and FIAP is the Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique.

The slides from Manfred Mueller’s excellent presentation on Small Flash photography are available here.

The next in-person monthly meeting will be held on December 2nd starting at 9:15 a.m.
The agenda for the meeting is:
Your images for the monthly assignment must be emailed by noon on Friday, November 25th to be included in the slideshow.
If you do not receive an email confirming that your images have been received, send a follow-up email to contact@ksccc.ca. For details on how to submit photos, including formats and titles, go to our Pictures/How to Submit page.
We are always looking for slideshows from members which will be shown, when time permits, during our monthly meetings. If you need help putting together a slideshow send an email to contact@ksccc.ca . For a list of all posts on how to make a slideshow refer to our website menu Pictures/Make a Slideshow.
Prior to the pandemic, we would sometimes provide a Free Table where members could bring in their surplus equipment, magazines and books which were offered free to other club members. At the December 2nd meeting, we will provide a Free Table where members can set aside their free items. If you bring an item to this table you must take it away if not claimed during the meeting. If the Free Table is successful we will repeat the effort at subsequent meetings.
The next assignment is Portrait without a Person and images will be shown at the meeting scheduled for January 6th.
See you at the meeting

Manfred Mueller will give a presentation on Just Add Light – Small Flash Photography on Friday, December 2, 2022.
Manfred is an award-winning, Kanata-based photographer who uses flash in much of his work. His Speedlight always sits in his camera bag ready to be pulled out when he needs additional light.
The talk will deal with the practical aspects of speedlight / small flash photography. It will cover approaches that can be used to get strong and effective images. Common mistakes made with flash photography are also demonstrated and discussed. These techniques will be demonstrated during the presentation.
For anyone interested in acquiring small flash for their own work, various options for the small flash and accessories will be discussed.
As mentioned at the November club meeting, the KSCCC will be promoting the club with a display of our work in the display case at the entrance to the Beaverbrook Library (next door), in January. We are looking for a few (5 or 6) 8” x 10” framed pictures for the display. This article explains what kind of pictures are needed, and how members can participate. We don’t have a lot of time to get the display ready, so please have a read below and, if you can help, let us know as soon as possible.
The theme for the January display is: “Winter: A Great Time to Create Pictures”. The display will promote getting outside to take winter pictures, as well as being creative in taking pictures and post-processing of pictures, inside. We are looking for a couple of good outdoor winter pictures, a couple of good indoor compositions, as well as a couple of artistic post-processing examples. The pictures need to be 8” x 10” inches in size in landscape format, and framed without matting in a fairly plain black or silver frame.
We are looking for very good pictures, which KSCCC members are proud to display and which showcase the great work produced by the club. We encourage all KSCCC members to participate. Pictures will be considered in the order submitted. We will be choosing a combination of pictures that complement each other, and best promotes the theme. To submit your picture for consideration please send an electronic copy of it in an email to contact@ksccc.ca, with the Subject line “Library display in January“ and put Attention: Jan & Bruce Turner in the text.
To meet the January date, we need to receive your submissions as soon as possible and certainly by the end of November. This will allow us time to select pictures and notify participants so that they can print and frame their pictures by mid-December.
We know there are lots of great pictures out there, so please take a few minutes to consider helping the KSCCC promote the club.
