Debbie Pinard to Present in January

Debbie Pinard, one of our Camera Club Members, will give a presentation on Find WIld Horses, Find Yourself on Friday, January 6, 2023.

Debbie has been taking photographs for about 40 years, first starting out with film, and then switching to digital with a Canon Powershot and then a Canon Rebel.  She currently uses a Canon 6D Mark 2, and a Canon t2i converted to infrared.

She does not specialize in any particular type of photography, and loves to experiment (as long as it doesn’t include a tripod!).  Awards include top 10 in the Flickr Your Best Shot 2019 and she won the 2018 EyeEm Award for “The Traveler”.  She has also had a picture chosen to create Christmas Cards for the Canadian Wildlife Federation and for a calendar in the 2010  “Nature in the City” David Suzuki Foundation photo contest.  You can see some of her images at https://deborahpinard.com/.

Prior to the pandemic, we would sometimes provide a Free Table where members could bring in their surplus equipment, magazines and books which were offered free to other club members.  At the December 2nd meeting, we will provide a Free Table where members can set aside their free items.  If you bring an item to this table you must take it away if not claimed during the meeting. If the Free Table is successful we will repeat the effort at subsequent meetings.

The next assignment is Portrait without a Person and images will be shown at the meeting scheduled for January 6th.

Manfred Mueller to Present in December

Manfred Mueller

Manfred Mueller will give a presentation on Just Add Light – Small Flash Photography on Friday, December 2, 2022.

Manfred is an award-winning, Kanata-based photographer who uses flash in much of his work.  His Speedlight always sits in his camera bag ready to be pulled out when he needs additional light.

The talk will deal with the practical aspects of speedlight / small flash photography.  It will cover approaches that can be used to get strong and effective images.  Common mistakes made with flash photography are also demonstrated and discussed. These techniques will be demonstrated during the presentation.

For anyone interested in acquiring small flash for their own work, various options for the small flash and accessories will be discussed.

RicharD Murphy To Speak November 4th

The speaker at our November meeting will be local photographer RicharD Murphy. He says his presentation will explore:

who I am, what I’ve done, what I do, and why I do it

Having lived in Kanata since his early childhood, RicharD first began in photography while attending the Earl of March S.S. where he was encouraged by his very patient art teachers. To further his photographic education, RicharD moved to London, Ontario and studied at Fanshawe College where he specialized in large-format, commercial product photography.

RicharD has worked in Ottawa’s photographic industry for over twenty-five years in such areas as custom darkroom printing, artwork reproduction, corporate portraiture, commercial magazine photography, and technical imaging for national heritage organizations such as Library and Archives Canada and the Canadian Museum of Civilization.

A technical photographer by day, and a fine art photographer by night, RicharD takes equal pleasure photographing computer network equipment as he does the undersides of mushrooms.

To see examples of RicharD’s work, check out his website.
