Welcome Silvana

Hello everyone, my name is Silvana Edwards, and I am excited to
join the Kanata Seniors Centre as your new Recreation Supervisor.

With a decade of experience working in a private retirement home
at the start of my career, I developed a deep appreciation for
working with older adults. During the pandemic, I worked at a City of
Ottawa long-term care home delivering recreation programs,
witnessing firsthand the resilience and strength of our community.
Most recently, I served as the Program Coordinator for Barrhaven
Community Programs, where I enjoyed coordinating engaging and
enriching programs for the local community at stand-alone sites and
in local schools.

I understand that I have some big shoes to fill, but I am eager to
bring my experience and passion to this role. I am looking forward
to getting to know each and every one of you and working together
to create memorable and meaningful moments. Thank you for the
warm welcome thus far.

The Renaissance of Film Photography

Most of us in our camera club began our photographic journey taking pictures on film. With the advent of digital photography, many predicted the demise of film photography, but this is far from the case today.

In the past few years, there has been a remarkable resurgence of interest in vintage film cameras and lenses, especially amongst young photographers in the 18 to 30-year-old age bracket. Older SLR cameras have increased in value and film is once again being stocked in photo stores.

This presentation explores this “rebirth” of interest in film photography and the allure of old cameras and lenses. The presenters share some of their vintage camera collection as well as photos taken with those cameras. In addition, the audience will learn about ways to recondition old cameras and lenses that may have been languishing in an old cupboard and get them working again. The presentation also reviews the types of film currently available.

New Pictures in the Seniors Centre

In January 2025, we completed changing the six KSCCC pictures in the Seniors Centre. The new pictures will remain up until June 2025. Please take a minute to check them out when you are next there. Thanks to the following photographers for some great pictures: Raj Srinivasan, Doug McCrady, Marg Jackman, Thomas Illing, and Jay-Dee Purdy.

As a reminder, the KSCCC is looking for additional pictures to hang in the Seniors Centre, and we encourage all club members to contribute.  We are now open for business for the June change. If you have a picture you really like, then chances are people at the Centre would enjoy seeing it too. For more information on how to participate, please check out this post and this post or send your questions to contact@ksccc.ca to the attention of Jan and Bruce Turner.

Please be sure to include your name and a title for the picture with your submission.

Kanata Seniors Craft Group Funds KSCCC Website

The Kanata Seniors Centre Craft Group has been supporting the Camera Club by contributing funding for our website, domain name, and image storage.

This funding provides a critical part of the Club presence, and it is difficult to imagine just how we would operate at the level we do without this support.

Thank you from the Camera Club and all its members!
