March 31st is World Backup Day!
Computer storage fails. Devices are stolen. Natural and man-made disasters occur. Malware encrypts data.
We all need backup routines in place to protect our valuable image files — routines that follow the 3-2-1 backup rule:
In case you need help with improving your backup routine, talk to the folks at our help table at the back of the room during the next mid-meeting break.
If you need more detailed help, book a session with the Kanata Seniors Council tech tutors who can help with Windows, Apple, & Android backup solutions.

When we are no longer around, no one is going to look at our hard drive to see our photographs. Making prints, on the other hand, gives us something that we can hand down to our children and grandchildren. Prints are something we can enjoy without having to resort to technology to view our photographs.
Join club member and print maker Manfred Mueller in examining some of the options we have to make and display prints and to create photo books.

See you at the meeting.

Until April 4th, the KSCCC will be promoting the club and showcasing our work in the display case at the entrance to the Ottawa Public Library, Beaverbrook Branch. The theme is: Cell Phones Take Great Pictures. Thanks for their contributions to the display to photographers Debbie Pinard, Phil Tughan, Tom Lewis, Ed Lascelle, Ted Timmons, and Michele Doran-Sugar, and a special thanks to them for their very quick responses to a tight timeline. If you are heading to the Seniors Centre, pop by the Library and have a peek at the display.

Thank you again for inspiring us.

Once again this year, the KSCCC will be promoting the club with a display of our work in the display case at the entrance to the Beaverbrook Library (next door to the Seniors Centre), in late March and early April. The theme will be: “Phones take great pictures” To complete the display, we are looking for six pictures taken with cell phones. They will need to be printed 8” x 10” inches in size (landscape or portrait) and framed without matting in a fairly plain black or silver frame.
Pictures will be considered in the order submitted. They can be about any subject. We will be choosing a combination of pictures taken with cell phones, that complement each other and show a variety of interesting subjects. To submit your picture for consideration please send an electronic copy in an email to contact@ksccc.ca , with the Subject line “Library display in March“ and put Attention: Jan & Bruce Turner in the text.
To meet the late March date (exact dates to be confirmed), we need to receive your electronic submissions as soon as possible. This will allow us time to select pictures and notify participants so that they can print and frame their pictures by March 22.
We know there are lots of great pictures out there, so please take a few minutes to consider helping the KSCCC promote the club.

How far do you want to push beyond just Thinking Like a Photographer? At our March 7th meeting, Bill will share his journey on how to be more creative in achieving the desired Image from the captured data. He’ll provide examples of before and after Images and present a few AV Shows. This Presentation focuses on the What & Why, not the How.
Bill’s Artistic Statement
I believe pressing the shutter is only the first step in the photographic process. The photographic Image can be so much more than it was in the past. Modern tools now allow the photographer to more clearly convey to the viewer the artist’s interpretation of the world and of their perception of life. I use a varied tool kit to create an Image that hopefully evokes for the viewer a strong sense of what I experienced and what I felt; not just what I saw.
