With our current season winding down, we are busy planning for our new 2022/23 season. Thank you to all our club members who identified interesting and ambitious topics for our monthly challenges.
Results from our 2022 Members’ Survey indicate that you would like to extend the time for taking photographs to 12 months. Of course, if you are unable to take photographs in this time, please use photographs from your archive that relate to the monthly challenge.
We are hoping to reconvene in-person monthly meetings at the Kanata Seniors Centre starting in September 2022.
We thought that members would like to get a “sneak peek” at the topics for our monthly challenges for the new season.
So, for those photographers who like to get a jump start on their photography, here is the list of topics. Keep an eye on our website for a full listing of topic descriptions and due dates that will be posted shortly after our June meeting.

Club member Ted Timmons shot the recent “blood moon” lunar eclipse and shared his experience and images.
It was a bit of an adventure to sort out how to go about getting the shots. The weather cooperated enough to let me make a few images of the moon. The image of just the moon is straight out of the camera with minimal post-processing.
Equipment:
This one is a composite image. Not possible with the location, my gear, and especially my skill level to get the epic image of a very large moon with the background. Had to mask, copy, resize the moon to composite in the other image.

She recently emailed me to say:
I sent my Cardinal photo to CBC TV weather guy Ian Black because he has a “fun weather photo” file where he shows a couple of seasonal photos sent to him by viewers each night on his CBC TV Weather segment each night at 6pm & 10 pm.
Well, I got an email from Ian Black today & he said he was showing the photo this evening. It was on the 6pm news & will be shown again on the 10 pm-11 pm TV News.
I think I’m allowed to grin.

Photography books from the library of John Taylor, Ottawa historian, and photographer will be featured from Wednesday, April 6 to Saturday, April 16th.
After that additional photography books will be added to the display from Second Edition’s reserved storage of books.

The photography books displayed for sale were donated in memory of John Taylor. John was a skilled photographer, and he treasured the many photography books that were part of his extensive Library.
His book Ottawa: An Illustrated History was named the best local and regional history for 1988 by the Ontario Historical Society.
The book is available to borrow from the Ottawa Public Library.
The Second Editions Bookshop, operated by The Friends of the Ottawa Public Library Association, is located beside the library at 101 Centrepointe Drive, Nepean ON K2G 0B5. It is open:
Wednesday: 11:00am – 2:00pm
